Coaching at EDIBC

At the East Dorset Indoor Bowling Club we have several fully qualified Bowls Coaches (supported by Bowls England), and EBCS (English Bowls Coaches Society)

These are licensed coaches available to support all ages and abilities from beginners to improvers to experienced players. Training can be offered to groups or individuals, and extended to members and non-members – including non-bowling organisations.

Beginners Bowling Course

It is important to note, that to take the beginners bowling course, you do not need to join the club. The course is available to all, without any commitment. Now read on.

A beginners bowling course, consists of three one hour lessons where your coach will introduce you to all the basics of bowling including technique, rules and conventions. You will of course be bowling and getting familiar with the feel of the bowls and the rink.

Towards the end of the hour, you can relax in our bar/restaurant for a chat with the coach. You will probably be in a small group with some other starters so it is fun to share your experiences. For the beginners coaching course there is a nominal charge. (See scale of charges for details.)

After your three coaching sessions, your coach will introduce your next options. If you decide to continue, you will be invited to join a group we call “Cygnets”.

Coaching does not stop there. As experience of bowling is gained, our coaches can tailor sessions to meet your needs. Typical coaching session can include;

  • Improving your line and length
  • Help with delivery of the bowl
  • Tactical play
  • Team play
  • How to be an effective “skip”
  • Much more besides….
